Coming in December: Flint's Iceland Arena to host DZK Memorial Hockey Tournament

FLINT, Michigan -- Iceland Arena, 1160 Elms Rd. in Flint, will play host to the DZK Memorial Hockey Tournament December 17-19, 2010. The tournament is held annually in honor of Dustin Zold Kilbourn, the late son of Earl and Phyllis Kilbourn, who died in 2005 at the age of 24.

The purpose of the tournament, and the foundation of the same name, is to provide opportunities for young people who might not otherwise have the opportunity to play the game Dustin loved.

Since 2007, the foundation has sent four children to hockey camps, referee seminars and other activities that promote hockey to youth. This past summer, 12-year-old Ryan Hubbard (pictured below with the tournament's founders), attended hockey camp on scholarship from the foundation.

The tournament will host four teams in three divisions: Mite B, Squirt B and Pee Wee B. A "round robin" format will be utilized with each team playing the other three teams in their division followed by championship games.

The tournament fee is $550 and checks are to be made payable to DZK Memorial Foundation. Payments should be mailed to Earl Kilbourn, 6151 Cold Springs Trail, Grand Blanc, Michigan 48439.
