Founded over 75 years ago, the Flint Institute of Arts is a museum dedicated to collecting, preserving and presenting art of the highest quality from around the world. Today, the FIA's collection includes over 7,000 works of art, ranging from important American and European paintings and decorative arts to Native American, African, and Asian artifacts. In addition to installations of the permanent collection, many special exhibitions are scheduled throughout the year. The FIA Art School offers classes for students from ages 2 1/2 to senior citizen, and thousands of adults and children visit the museum and participate in its programs annually.

Named for the pioneer wagon manufacturer who was primarily responsible for bringing Buick Motor Company to Flint, The Whiting, which recently received a $6.8 million dollar facelift, is praised as one of the most elegant concert halls in the nation. With a seating capacity of 2,050, the theater is Flint's premier performing arts venue presenting Broadway, comedy, Jazz & Blues, concerts, and is home to the Flint Symphony Orchestra. In addition, the theater hosts many types of educational programs, such as lectures, assemblies, graduation ceremonies and community events.
